Assignment 5 Results

Thanks to all those who participated. This was a difficult one for me because I really wanted to use color. Please critique everyone's artwork. Remember when you are leaving feedback that the purpose of this assignment was to work on contrast in the value range. The focal point of the piece should have the most contrast to help draw the viewer in.

Haleigh, I need to work more on changing your piece to a black and white...I lost some of the values when changing it...it's past midnight though so maybe tomorrow :)

Don't worry about it. I actually really like it in black and white.
I feel bad for not reading the entire assignment last week. I promise I will do what you say this week. A colored apple is a little bit different from a black and white bug. I still like my picture though.

p.s.
I did draw a black and white bug. It is just inside the apple. You can't see it.

Haleigh, You didn't have to draw a bug...it was just supposed to be in black and white. :)

I redid Haleigh's black and white photo so that it's closer to her color image's values.

Karleigh your picture is very strong, clean and the contrast is about as high as you can go. I was impressed with the work. very good.

Rett as usual most creative. I liked the composition, the way the spiders legs went in and out of the picture. The face definitely had the most contrast so you accomplished the task.

Haleigh I have a hard time with my values when I work in color. so I was impressed with the strong values in the black and white. I like the looseness and freedom in your apple. Very round, shadow is nice and contrast is on the apple.

Sandra Faye I lost some of the contrast and couldn't get it back with a white pencil. Also didn't put a lot of thought into the background and it shows.

Sandra Faye: I liked the background...the details were lost in it which allows the viewer to focus more on the bug. The use of white right behind the bugs head and antennas was great. It made the bug pop and gave it life as well as created a great focal point.

Rett: This really creeped me out. Especially posting this late at night. The main contrast is on the eyes and mouth and really draws you to look there (and get creeped out) It's nice to see a drawing from you :)

Haleigh: We'll talk about contrast using color in another assignment down the road but I thought you did well not only using the value range contrast but also color contrast. Nicely done.

As for mine...I think I accomplished the purpose of the assignment but it really seems too boring. I might have to add more to it.

CRITEEK

Artist: Sandra Faye

I found your piece to be some type of a moth or a very furry butterfly. It looks hungry, and its SO incredible that you were able to capture the hunger. It's powerful.

Artist: Rett Ashby

Well done Mr. Ashby with your drawing. It's so nice that people are taking interest in doing portraits of politicians again. Stay away from the Lincoln...he's mine!

Artist: Karleigh Heywood

that is a beautiful palm tree. Except you need to remember that the palms aren't that big, and there's usually more than two. Well done though, I'm impressed you painted the tree with a micron. I've always had problems with Micron, I prefer intel.

Artist: Haleigh Ashby

Isn't it nice not having to worry about drawing bruised fruit on account of Skylers juggling!?!

Overall, these appear to be art. good.

I also vote yes. We need more people and Nathanial Ashby would be welcome on my half. I'd also like to see his work in the exercises.

Karleigh, I absolutly love the picture. contrary to what you think of it, I find it extreamly interesting. I come back often to simply look at it.

Haleigh, I am very impressed you got your values in that picture so well. I applaud you for that. Plus it's so light and happy in the color version. Well done.

Sandra, I have to say I love the softness of the moth and the gentle background. The picture has a feeling to it that fits perfectly.

Rett, that spider is COOL! It just gives me the creepycrawlys and I love to sit and stare at that black eye. I can almost see myself in the reflection of that eye.
